Z is very passionate about the environment and she'll let you know it, while she is trying to adopt isopods from the yard and collect rocks.

What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn MoreZ loves how everything depends on each other, how the ecosystem functions- and why it does. She loves the different features she sees in every plant and animal and wants to know exactly why they do what they do and how they came to do it. This means Z is also a very passionate environmentalist for a 9 year old. Any new task or activity must pass her assessment and be proven that it won't hurt mother nature. I've never seen a kid get so angry about seeing litter on the side of the road.
Z can't pick just one. It changes almost weekly because she doesn't want to play favorites but, Mudskippers are a notable entry. Z loves the way they jump and thinks they way they posture is adorable and re watches documentaries about them every couple weeks. She loves how they crawl on their fins and wishes she had gills. Axolotls are high on her list as well. If we can go off book she also loves isopods- they are on record as the one flightless bug she wants to keep as a pet.
It's a tie between nature walks, and hunting for her collection. Z has nature collections that we have to limit or they would take over. She wants to collect bones too (vulture culture) but we are making her wait till she's older. If Z's outside she's inspecting every plant, trying to figure out why they look the way they do and if she can sneakily transplant them, or hunting for new rocks- most recently she wants to find fossils- we need to find a good spot to hunt those.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Jr. Ranger, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
