What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn MoreRex loves learning about the natural world. He loves to lift rocks and see what ecosystems are thriving underneath. He enjoys finding crayfish at the lake beach by our home and observing how the move and interact with each other. We learn about the watershed system at our local education center and finds pride in telling his younger brother or other peers what he has learned. He has a booklet he uses to identify different bugs he finds and learns about their unique traits.
Rex loves otters because they are so cute and playful and he has gotten to see both sea otters here on the Washington coast and river otters when we visit Yellowstone National Park area. They are also his school mascot and that brings a special pride for him.
Rex's favorite outdoor activity is camping. He enjoys setting up camp and scoping out the surrounding environment, especially with friends. It's a special treat to stay up til dark to watch the stars come out and roast marshmallows around the campfire (when allowed here in Washington). Rex is learning about how to filter water, what makes a good campsite, how to leave no trace, and how to help by removing trash and supporting our local clean-ups.
