Phoenix loves being outside because it’s where his sense of adventure comes alive. Nature is a place where he has always loved to explore, discover animals, and create new adventures every day…and he is outside every day. He’ll spend hours wandering through our backyard and field patiently searching for snakes, toads, and salamanders. Whether with friends or on his own, he’s completely at home in nature. šæš³ š
Phoenix’s favourite animal has been snakes since he was two years old. He used to take a rubber snake with him everywhere we went and could never understand why people were afraid of it. Snakes fascinate him—their unpredictable nature, the way they hunt, eat, and move, and the incredible colours and patterns they come in. There seem to be endless reasons why he loves them. This year for Christmas, he even got a corn snake named Carl and has been taking such great care of him.
Phoenix’s favourite outdoor activity is looking for snakes in our backyard or in the fields around our property. He spends almost every day in the spring and summer catching snakes, toads, and anything that moves. He’s even won over most of his friends to liking snakes and loves having them join him on his expeditions. The teachers at his school even had to make a new rule at recess about not being allowed to catch snakes anymore because Phoenix got bitten one too many times. He loved it though.
