When Ophelia walks outside or goes on hikes she feels connected to the world. From discovering old bottles and sea glass on nearby beaches to finding salamanders in our local park, she enjoys discovering new things and making the environment a healthier place.
Ophelia’s favorite animal is a skunk. She feels that skunks are misunderstood and are actually very interesting and useful. For example, they eat grubs and other insects. They also have a superpower — the ability to activate their scent glands to defend themselves. Watch her three fun facts video on skunks in her profile!
Ophelia enjoys going on outdoor adventures. These include family hikes to spot unusual animals like deer or foxes, observing how beautiful nature can be (just like a painting…seeing the sun shine on the surface of the river or looking up at the leaves on the trees), and picking up trash to keep our community clean. She once found a tire, a piece of a car, and has a personal record of clearing three bags of trash in one day.
