Oliver has a great eye for locating plants, fungus, and wildlife. Oliver has been flipping rocks over looking for critters ever since he could walk, he loves watching the spiders eat around our house, and he points out every single mushroom when we are hiking. He has a very curious mind and is always asking to know the types of plants and animals we see.
"Cheetahs because they are a cool color and are covered in spots and can run very fast, they can probably run faster than a car." Oliver goes through phases when it comes to his "favorite animal", not too long ago he would have said axolotls are his favorite. This phase often coincides with something he recently learned; we were recently learning about camouflage and how a lot of animals have spots or are a certain color so they blend in to their environment.
"Fishing for pike in the canoe with my Dad." It's funny that he specified fishing for pike, because we have only caught pike one time. Our normal target species are trout or salmon. That one pike fishing trip must have left an impression; the weather was horrible that day and it was raining the entire time. The weather absolutely does not phase him when it comes to fishing, he wants to go rain or shine!
