What does Nola love most about nature?

Nola loves the messy parts of nature. Whether it is animal birth or stomping through a creek, Nola is happy to be there. It is not uncommon to find animal bones that she picked up in the woods on the kitchen counter. She would not hesitate to wade a creek, climb a tree, or navigate brambles to find a cool plant or bug. Her fine tuned observational skills make every adventure even more fun as she is keen to notice hard-to-find mushrooms or well-camouflaged animals.

What is Nola's favorite animal—and why?

While choosing a favorite is hard, Nola really loves birds. Since she was small she has raised her own flock of chickens, quail, guineas, and a peahen. She hatches many eggs each year and reads endless books about birds of all kinds. She enjoys watching birds and learning about them. We have a number of bald eagle nests in our area and we have spent time watching them on our farm and learning about them. She is particularly fascinated by eggs and their development.

What is Nola's favorite outdoor activity?

Nola learning about all of the bits of nature so she can nurture them responsibly. At home we pick up trash along the roadside, learn about forest management for the best habitat, and fight invasive species like Multiflora Rose and Autumn Olive. Nola is a fierce defender of those who cannot defend themselves and enjoys standing up for habitat protection. She is a great communicator for her age and passionately tells anyone who will listen about her favorite animals or nature finds.
