Mason loves everything about being outside. He has endless energy and is always exploring, running, and spotting new things along the way. He loves collecting river rocks, shells, and pine cones as little treasures from his adventures. He rarely slows down, and his excitement for nature never runs out.
Mason’s favorite animal is sturgeon, especially “Herman the Sturgeon” at Bonneville Dam. Herman is a white sturgeon over 80 years old, nearly 10 feet long, and around 500 pounds. Mason gets so excited when we visit, running between the viewing areas and pointing out how big they are, how they move, and where they’re swimming. He loves explaining what they’re doing, and his excitement always makes people smile.
Mason’s favorite thing to do is hike around Cascade Locks and the Gorge, he’s always looking for bugs, birds, and animals and likes to stop and watch what they’re doing. He loves the waterfalls, is starting to learn the geology of the area, and can even point out plants along the trail. He also notices burned stumps from the Eagle Creek Fire and the new growth coming back, and is learning why it’s important to take care of nature.
