What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn MoreWhat I love most about nature are all the animals and observing how they move and the sounds they make. I enjoy taking time to watch and observe each critter and understanding why it does what it does. I once watched as a lizard shed its skin in my own backyard. I also once witnessed a praying mantis eat the head of a frog. So fascinating how the food web works with animals and bugs.
My favorite animal is the Garter snake. I love to watch their silky scales slither around. They are not dangerous to pick up for humans, their small amount of venom only hurts their prey. They are really good swimmers. They even give birth to live snakes rather than eggs.
Since I was very young, my favorite outdoor activity has always been searching for bugs and reptiles in the forest behind my house. I love climbing trees, hiking mountains, swimming in lakes and going fishing. When I am at the ocean I love to snorkel and observe the marine invertebrates in their habitat and search for sea stars and sea anemones when it is low tide.
