Starting at home, Maro is responsible for the daily feeding, walking, training and clean up for his three Xoloitzcuintle hairless dogs. It’s a special connection to see how he thinks of their needs, just as he is growing up and learning to take care of himself. Outside our home, Maro is fascinated by learning how animals live their daily lives and the habitats they need to thrive.
While his favorite animal seems to update every time we meet new creatures, lately Maro talks a lot about Gorillas. He loves learning about communicating with Koko and the possibilities of protecting animals by learning from them.
Maro loves to swim and has recently discovered snorkeling—a new way to discover the fragile habitats of so many sea creatures. Maro doesn’t want to wait until college to study marine biology, he wants to study coral reefs now so that he can protect the animals that call the reefs home and make an impact before it’s too late. He doesn’t have gills but Maro feels right at home in the water.
