Luke is a true Water Tiger! He’s curious, adventurous, and demonstrates fierce empathy not only for people, but for all living things.
Thank you for generously supporting Luke in this year’s competition. Your participation helps empower the National Wildlife Federation in their mission to protect wildlife, restore habitats, and inspire the next generation of conservationists.
When I asked Luke what he loves most about nature, he said, “ I love watching teeny tiny bugs do big things in nature!” For Luke, nature is alive and full of stories, where even the smallest creatures have huge adventures. Luke lives his little life with nearly no restraint, but in nature, he loves to slow down and observe, celebrate, explore, and create.
Luke’s favorite animal is an elephant. When asked why, he said, “I like that they can say hi and pick up bananas with their long trunks. And I like that they have nice families who play in the mud.” Luke also loves all cats no matter if they are house cats or the big cats in the wild. He says, “they are all just kitties” as he learns how similar they really are.
Luke’s favorite outdoor activity is “hiking by a creek”. He explores, uses his body in new ways, searches for small life, and lets his imagination run wild. He also recently went snorkeling and had the best time watching the schools of fish swim by and observing the crabs on the ocean floor. When we were back on land, Luke’s curiosity took over and the questions flowed out. “Do crabs have different eyes than us so they can see underwater?” and “why do fish swim so close together?”
