What does Lucas love most about nature?

Lucas loves the wonder of discovering wildlife and wild places. He’s spotted bald eagles and bears in the mountains and toucans, parrots, monkeys, and capybaras in Brazil. At a mountain nature reserve near Teresópolis, where thousands of trees were planted to restore the forest, he explored incredible plants, insects, and animals. Lucas also protects nature, rescuing ladybugs and praying mantises for our garden and always practicing Leave No Trace wherever he explores.

What is Lucas's favorite animal—and why?

Lucas loves all animals, but birds amaze him most. Watching bald eagles soar or colorful parrots fly fills him with wonder and excitement. When injured birds once landed in our yard, Lucas helped care for them with his brother until they were strong enough to fly away. That experience deepened his respect for wildlife and his belief that animals deserve protection and kindness. He loves learning how every animal, big or small, plays an important role in keeping nature healthy.

What is Lucas's favorite outdoor activity?

Lucas loves exploring wild places. He hikes miles and can out-hike his parents, trekking trails in Zion National Park, Montana, Lake Powell, Lyman Lake, and Logan Canyon. He fishes, rock climbs, paddle boards, and camps with his family. One favorite adventure was canoe-camping deep into Grand Teton National Park, paddling across lakes to a remote beach beneath Mount Moran where he explored islands, found wild berries, and caught minnows.
