Jason has always had a love for nature and animals. Even though he has faced obstacles in his life, fishing has helped bring him peace.

What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn MoreBeing outdoors has always made me happy and calm. I love to explore nature by going for walks or hikes in Pisgah Forest which is close by. Listening to the birds sing, the leaves rustling, or the water hitting the rocks reduces my stress and anxiety a lot.
I love all animals. It is really hard to choose just one. But if I had to pick one it would be the endangered red panda. They are my favorite animal to see at the WNC nature center because they are so cuddly and playful. The features and markings on their fur help them camouflage but are also really cute.
I love all sorts of outdoor activities, but fishing by far is my favorite. I love fishing for bass, trout, and catfish. I have caught fish from local ponds, lakes, and the Nantahala River. I love the peace and quiet of being in nature, but also the excitement of getting a fish on the line. I even got to go fishing on the intracoastal waterway last summer on a boat and caught baby sharks and a huge red drum. I love identifying the different kinds of fish that I have caught.
