What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn MoreHe likes to learn about any animals, reptile or insect. Especially the special ways they escape predators, their different habitats, and how they all coexist. He relates to them in imaginative ways only a child could when it comes to how they overcome adversity. Sometimes he's scared of different insects, but remembering their role in nature helps them be less scary.
(currently) his favorite animal is the California Condor. He likes them because they eat up all the dead animals so the planet doesn't stink. He says we definitely need them. (Previously) It was the wildebeest of the African Savannah. After he had watched The Lion King the first time he was obsessed with the wildebeests not the lions. Even has a wildebeest stuffy. And an orca, and a donkey, and a Brachiosaurus. Very specific in his likes and loves of his animals.
Bird spotting from anywhere. Trails, car, parking lots. He can tell the difference between a red-tailed hawk and a turkey vulture. He can tell the difference between a crow and a raven! His grandmother is a staunch bird lover. She's on a bird society group and she is a visiting volunteer at the Ojai Raptor Center. Jake has never been to the Raptor Center, for obvious reasons. It's not a zoo. But he loves hearing about the stories his grandma tells about seeing bald eagles nursed back to health.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Jr. Ranger, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
