Receive Text UpdatesJack’s love for nature began long before he could walk or talk. Many of his first adventures took place from a hiking backpack while exploring state and national parks. His interest in birds sparked from the vantage point of a backpack carrier. Learning about birds has since fueled his ongoing passion for nature. Jack loves finding wildlife unique to different regions; when traveling, he can be found in visitor centers researching native animals and their habitats.
Jack’s favorite animal is the roadrunner. Jack first discovered this bird during a trip to New Mexico, where it is the state bird. He is fascinated by them because they prefer running to flying and can keep pace with a coyote. He’ll tell you that roadrunners hunt a variety of prey, including scorpions, rattlesnakes, lizards, hummingbirds and spiders. You can find Jack on desert walks searching for the unique X-shaped tracks they leave behind or a roadrunner if he’s fast enough to spot one!
Jack’s favorite outdoor activity is bird watching. On days Jack isn’t at preschool, you’ll find him hunting for new species of birds with his binoculars and bird identification book in hand. Jack lives near a river, so he frequently spots bald eagles and red-tailed hawks. He’ll tell you, “Bird watching is fun because you can do it anywhere…….set up a bird feeder in your backyard.” If you get the chance to meet Jack, he’ll be sure to ask you about your favorite bird!
