Learn MoreIanto loves learning about what makes a place unique. He is fascinated by the geology that shapes an area and connects that to other places he's studied or visited. He loves animals. Recently, he learned about indicator species whose presence give us insight into the health of an environment.
Ianto's current favorite animal is the kiwi. Getting to see an endemic animal is always exciting and he makes connections between different environments he's visited and how the geography may have an impact on the animal. He is fascinated by the kiwi's evolution in isolation from mammals and that it has bones with marrow along with being a flightless bird. He is learning about the different types of kiwi and drawing maps of their range.
Ianto's favorite outdoor activity is sketching in his nature journals. He records what he sees, diagrams plants and animals, makes maps, and writes facts about what he's learned.
