Hawke greets each day with muddy boots and a pocket full of questions about the wild. What is the fastest animal? What color is crocodile blood? Why did the megalodon disappear? Growing up among our horse rescue with sheep, goats, chickens, dogs, and cats, he already understands the role each animal plays. He helps hold newborn lambs so they learn to trust people. For Hawke, nature is full of animals to care for, seeds to plant, and adventures waiting just beyond the door.
Today Hawke’s favorite animals are baby puppies because they are so cute. He helped raise and train two litters of Maremma livestock guardian pups. Yesterday his favorite animal was a chicken after his first baby chick hatched. Tomorrow will probably bring a new favorite. Hawke’s list of favorite animals keeps growing, though lately he has been dreaming about one day petting a shark.
Hawke’s favorite activity is adventuring with his family. He loves kayaking just before the sun goes down, searching for frogs along the shore, and spotting wildlife as the day turns to evening. He also enjoys doing the rounds with his dad, taking care of our animals, checking on the garden, and exploring every corner of the land around our home. For Hawke, the best days are spent outside discovering something new.
