Receive Text UpdatesFor Garren, being outdoors isn't just a walk; it's a chance to find something new. Whether he's hiking trails, exploring the woods, or helping in the yard, he's always on the lookout: listening for birds, scanning for animal tracks, and flipping rocks in the creek to see what friend might be hiding underneath. That sense of discovery — never knowing what he'll find next — is what makes nature exciting for him every time.
He's always loved reptiles, lizards being his most favorite. Their variety, their ability to adapt, and their unique appearance and camouflage keep him guessing and he’s always finding new facts to share. The tuatara fascinates him in particular because they are a “living fossil.” It’s the closest thing he can get to a dinosaur. He also has a strong interest in extinct animals. He hopes to travel to Tasmania one day to search for the Tasmanian tiger, which he's convinced is still out there.
If Garren could, he'd live outdoors. His favorite activity is hiking. Hiking challenges him, and it's our family time. Vacations revolve around trails: Great Smoky Mountains, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, our local Cincinnati Nature Center. He is the reason our family joined bird club at our school! One day, we hope to explore Alaska together! Garren also loves helping his mom with beekeeping and raising monarch butterflies.
