Some of her favorite animal sightings have been wolves in Yellowstone, gators, crocodiles and manatees in the Everglades, dolphins in Channel Islands and a tarantula crossing the road in Death Valley. Observing wildlife in their natural habitat is a privilege and one that isn’t always guaranteed.
Eliana has had many favorite animals over the years. From the spectacled cobra, to the American alligator, reptiles are among her many favorites, with the top spot going to the Komodo Dragon. These endangered lizards have a forked tongue that is used to taste the air for scent particles similar to snakes. They can detect carrion (rotting carcasses) up to 5 miles away! She dreams of visiting them on Komodo Island one day.
Eliana’s favorite outdoor activity is visiting National Parks with her family. She visited her first park, Yellowstone, when she was 4 years old and has since been to 17 National Parks and 3 National Preserves and hopes to visit all of them one day. Some of her favorite activities include kayaking and riding bikes next to alligators and crocodiles in the Everglades, finding water snakes on a herping tour in Big Cypress, and watching the Kilauea eruption in Hawaii Volcanoes.
