What does Alma love most about nature?

She is a natural born explorer with a deep respect for our planet. From studying at the Museum of Natural History learning about everything from ants and snakes to elephants and dinosaurs, to tracking tide pool life on the Cape Cod coastline, her curiosity is endless. Whether at the Central Park Zoo or swimming with tropical fish or carefully observing hermit crabs and iguanas on Vieques, Puerto Rico (today the largest natural reserve in the Caribbean), she treats every creature with kindness.

What is Alma's favorite animal—and why?

Turtles are her favorite animal because they represent the magic of land and sea. She learned their value firsthand, from gently feeding them in Central Park in New York City to the life-changing experience of witnessing hatchlings released on the beach of Careyes, Mexico. She thinks turtles are super cool real life dinosaurs and loves that they carry their homes on their backs and have been around since the age of T-Rex. 🐢✨

What is Alma's favorite outdoor activity?

She is a land and sea-exploring scientist! At Rockefeller University Young Scientist Day she learned how light works, built a rocket, and even put out a fire! When catching crabs in Cape Cod, swimming with tropical fish in Vieques, or doing experiments at home or in Central Park, she is always discovering something new. She records her discoveries in “Alma’s Book of Nature”, like a real explorer. With her curiosity for land and sea, she is the perfect helper to protect our natural world!
