Receive Text UpdatesMore than anything, Wyatt loves the diversity of animals found in nature. Some are fuzzy. Some are slimy. Some are sticky AND slimy. He feels relaxed and safe in the outdoors versus being near busy city streets. He prefers adventures hiking to mountaintops or swimming through creeks while discovering wildlife that often goes unnoticed. He loves the ocean because his favorite animal lives there and he even had a sea turtle bump into his leg while standing in shallows near a coral reef in Hawaii.
Wyatt’s favorite animal is the Portuguese Man o’ War. He became fascinated when one stung him on the ankle in Florida. After some discomfort he learned that they are amazing animals. Here are his favorite facts about them: their tentacles can be up to 165 feet long, Man o’ War Fish swim around their tentacles for protection, they can sense what’s around them, and four organisms called zooids make up the body of one Portuguese Man o’ War.
Wyatt’s favorite activity is “herping” (searching for reptiles and amphibians) because he can find snakes, lizards, salamanders, frogs, turtles, and crocodilians. He keeps track of every species he sees on his life list. It’s fun searching for them in deserts, oceans, forests, swamps, lakes, rivers, canyons, and mountains. He also likes helping scientists study endangered San Francisco Garter Snakes. Every time he encounters an animal in the wild he is inspired to protect it and its habitat.
