What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn moreWhen I asked Val this question, she said she loves getting to see things change the different colors in each season, even in her own garden, where she watches her strawberries grow and notices all the little bugs that come to eat them.
When asked about her favorite thing in nature, Vale finds it hard to choose there’s just so much she loves. She’s always curious about animals and how they change through different stages of life. Lately, she’s been especially interested in crabs how they move, where they live, and the surprising ways they grow. But that said she started talking about the jellyfish we accidentally caught at the beach.
Vale’s favorite thing to do outdoors is go “moonwalking” with her daddy. They explore the alkaline flats along the Owens River near our home in the Owens Valley. Where the pale, cracked earth looks just like the surface of the moon. Out there, she runs and plays, pretending she’s on another planet. One of her favorite discoveries is finding tiny seashells hidden in the dust its an amazing surprise in the middle of the desert, especially since we live nowhere near the ocean.
