Towering trees bring you to scale with a small sliver of the world you are in, while the smallest fungi shows everything is important even to the smallest factor. Also, I like more rugged beauty, like the irregular rock faces at Grand Canyon or when roots stick up in a forest.
The octopus is my favorite animal. They are incredibly intelligent and are good at learning. The Mimic Octopus has learned to impersonate other animals by positioning its tentacles and changing its color. The octopus has a brain in every tentacle and a brain in their head, unlike most living things. Also, some variants can edit their own RNA. An octopus can change itself quickly from brain to body by editing its RNA signals in such a way that it evolves super-fast.
My favorite outdoor activity is probably hiking, but only if it involves learning and creature hunting; a destination, preferably an interesting geological or biological site; or stick-out roots to climb over. It is nice to feel like you’re in nature, not an overgrown dirt path. I enjoy exploring nature in a more rugged form, with roots and rocks sticking up on the path, and plants growing everywhere.
