Thomas’s favorite outdoor activity is finding animals, especially bugs with their bright colors, crazy patterns, and camouflage. He photographs each one and uses iNaturalist to figure out what it is—his favorite part is choosing the best match from the species suggestions. One of his most memorable finds was a beetle that looked just like bug poop…until it stood up and walked away!
Thomas’s favorite animals are ants. He loves catching them and making temporary homes so he can watch all the interesting things they do. He notices how some ants huddle into groups while others wander off to explore. When he isn’t out exploring, Thomas enjoys watching YouTube videos where people build ant habitats and test how they respond to food, rain, and danger. He’s fascinated by the different roles ants play—like queens, workers, and scouts—and how they solve problems by working as a team
Thomas loves exploring creepy places with his dad—dark swamps, overgrown trails, inside tunnels, and under bridges—looking for strange animals most people never see. From swimming with sirens in the swamps of Florida to spotting deadly wandering spiders in the Peruvian Amazon, Thomas has explored some of the creepiest places on Earth and uncovered a hidden world of strange and wonderful wildlife.
