Learn more“I like to explore it and be in it and go in the forest to look for new things like mushrooms or creature tracks. I like to learn about it by doing experiments. I read lots of books about nature like my Wildlife Encyclopedia. Chief Charlie [Louden Tribal Chief] and my Denaakk’e [Koyukon Athabascan] teacher Mrs. Green show me about creature tracks and taking care of the earth. Nature makes me feel really happy, but not garbage and litter in nature. I feel excited and calm when I’m in nature!”
“My favorite creature is the Pangolin!! They get to wear armor all the time from the keratin plates on their backs. Did you know they have a super long tongue to get tons of termites to eat in one lick!? I like how they can turn into a ball. They’re like a ball of armor and it’s pretty cool!”
“My favorite thing is to go out in the forest. In the summer, I look for giant mushrooms in the forest, or animal tracks or poop. In the winter, I like to pretend to scurry over the deep snow in the woods like creatures! I like to find their tracks and see what animals were there. We have a lot of winter creatures here in Galena [Alaska] and lots of forest and my favorite thing is looking for signs of animals or animal things.”
