Learn moreEver since a baby, we’ve taken her out to the desert from the Grand Canyon to the high mountains in Arizona. She’s just like her parents who appreciate the great outdoors and discovering a world with unique geology, and lots of biodiversity of wildlife. We take lots of pictures and try to document wildflowers and other plants and animals. She’s a natural when it comes to learning about our environment.
Her favorite animals are birds and all birds. We’ll take her to southern Arizona to Birdwatch and look for new species of birds for her to document. She looks through her binoculars as a way to analyze fauna. Sedona is very observant about what species she’s looking at and the names of each bird. But if she had to choose one favorite animal, it would be the beautiful peacock with its magnificent feathers spread out. It’s her favorite stuffed animal.
Her favorite activity is hiking and playing in shallow stream beds and discovering with her magnifying glass, even the tiniest micro organisms. When we hike as a family, we talk about not just wildlife, but also the history and how our amazing home state of Arizona was created in the animals and people that lived before us. She understands it’s important to protect our fragile planet and the animals and plants that live amongst us. When she’s outside, her curiosity guides her to new information.
