Receive Text UpdatesLearning. His deepest desire is to know the answer to every curiosity he's ever had. Every time we go outside-- whether it's to get in the car to go to school or to go on a long hike-- he finds something to ask about. "What is that bird?" "What is the biggest bug that lives in Michigan?" "What does [insert animal] eat/ where do they live/ are they crepuscular or nocturnal or diurnal?" It's so fun to learn along with him.
Dinosaurs-- actually prehistoric megafauna...or modern sharks, reptiles and birds. He's drawn to them unlike any other creatures. He loves making the connection between modern species and their prehistoric counterparts. The fact that sharks have existed, mostly unchanged, for 450 million years absolutely blows his mind. We have spent a lot of time looking at photos of baby birds when they look especially like their dinosaur ancestors.
Mountain biking--the faster the better! Why walk to the dam to look for frogs and turtles when we can ride there?! He's a bit of an adrenaline junkie already. Some rides are all about the ride and others are about looking for new plants to ask about, listening for birds (and screeching to a halt to alert the group he heard a cardinal or tufted titmouse or whatever)...but then always end with a search or frogs, turtles, and snakes.
