What does Renee love most about nature?

Renee’s love of nature, and in particular wildlife, has been her strongest, life-long defining characteristic. Her favorite thing about nature is the vast diversity it holds. She loves learning about different habitats and the species that depend on them. Her heart lifts when new species are discovered and hurts when one is lost. Renee often takes the time to learn about what threatens a habitat or a species and asks how she can help. She is a true advocate!

What is Renee's favorite animal—and why?

Renee's favorite animal is the Red Panda. When Renee was seven, she saw her first Red Panda at the Oregon Zoo. After learning the species is endangered, her fascination turned into passion. She wanted to learn all she could about the species and became interested in wildlife conservation. That year, she spent her savings on a symbolic World Wildlife Fund (WWF) adoption and has continued to make periodic donations to WWF since. At age 11 now, she wants to do more to help!

What is Renee's favorite outdoor activity?

Renee’s has two favorite outdoor activities. In the summers, she loves going to Hebo lake. it is small and is home to thousands of red-bellied newts. She catches them with butterfly nets, studies them, and then she lets them go back into the wild. Her second favorite thing to do outdoors is look for bugs. She’ll spend hours flipping over rocks, digging through dirt or carefully looking through foliage. She comes alive when she’s in nature and is determined to find ways to protect it.
