Start Their AdventurePatrick loves that nature is always evolving and comprised of living and nonliving beings. He recognizes that we are part of nature and without a healthy ecosystem we cannot live. Often, he expresses his desire to protect nature by recycling and encourages everyone at school and home to do so. His safe space is exploring the outdoors where he feels connected to the environment and free from bullying. He is not afraid to explore even in the most simple places, such as a school garden.
His favorite animal is the turtle, specifically the sea turtle, because of its long lifespan, beautiful shells with different patterns and colors, the incredible journeys of survival in the ocean that they face, and capacity to find their way home to lay their eggs. He’s fascinated by their evolution and survival amongst other creatures; and loves that they are a symbol of wisdom. He worries about turtles being endangered and always tries his best to decrease waste and keep the ocean healthy.
Patrick is fascinated by nature walks. At school, during recess he explores the insects around the garden and teaches other kids about these. We also go on daily nature walks around the bayou where he uses his binoculars to look for birds, explores bugs under rocks, plants and animals around. When he catches a bug, he carefully examines it with his portable microscope and releases it unharmed back to nature. He has learned about flora and fauna conservation and calls himself a conservationist.
