Ophelia loves how creatures experience the world and the roles they play in our ecosystem. She shows concern for every animal's safety and is concerned about endangered/extinct statuses. She loves the uniqueness of every animal from how they camouflage (or don't), their special attributes, what they eat and navigate the world. She is interested in whether things are poisonous/venomous and survival adaptations of plants and animals.
Currently her favorite animals are otters followed by isopods and cicadas. She loves just how cute and agile otters are and pays special attention to how otters interact with each other. Ophelia is also fascinated with isopods and how they contribute to the ecosystem. She also just likes how they move around. She cares deeply for them and will stop in her tracks to ensure no one steps on a roly poly on the side walk.
Cicada and isopod "hunting." She will spend hours outside turning over bricks to look for isopods while observing the other insect life going on. Every year, we go in search of a "good cicada tree" and she will spend literal hours walking around the tree pointing to every cicada and watching them move. In the car, she watches carefully for wild turkeys and deer. We also spend a lot of time at the Omaha Zoo, which might be her favorite place.
