What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn moreOutdoors just seems to be where he belongs. He comes to life when he’s immersed in nature. Whether it’s climbing a tree or following a trail of ants, nature is his happy place. I think part of it is that he has an insatiable curiosity and desire to observe and learn more. He’s been taking entomology classes for about a year now and is so knowledgeable. It’s been through his advocacy for insects, bugs and arachnids that I overcame my phobia of insects. Isn’t that something? He is a born explorer.
His favorite animals are spiders, especially regal jumping spiders: “I feel like spiders are really misunderstood, a lot of people are scared of them, but if they got to know them and understand them, they might actually grow to like them. I really like how their body works, and they are able to jump so high even though they don’t have specific jumping muscles like grasshoppers. I think they are so interesting. They are curious, and I like how they bring strings with them wherever they go.”
Rock climbing, hiking and enjoying nature. Since he was a toddler he’s been a great climber, and now that he’s older he has started mountain climbing which is thrilling to watch. He loves the outdoors, so hiking is something we do all the time, and in his words “I love plants and animals, they are beautiful and sometimes it’s nice to just view them and enjoy what’s there.” I really hope he can get the opportunity to be a jr. ranger and have a bigger platform to advocate for insects and bugs.
