What does Michael love most about nature?

Finding new (to him) species of insects and animals. Whenever he spots an unfamiliar insect or animal, even a plant, he asks that we "take a picture on [our] phone so we can find out what it is." He often asks about specific bug/animal sightings from as far back as a couple of years ago!

What is Michael's favorite animal—and why?

"Raccoons, because they look so cute. And the ringneck snakes, and midland water snakes, and that big grown up midland water snake, like the one I found under a rock!" This is truly a hard question for him, he loves just about any animal or insect. Michael is relatively fearless when it comes to animal encounters, within reason.

What is Michael's favorite outdoor activity?

"Look for bugs." He spends a great deal of time, whereever he is (parks, store parking lots, etc.), bug hunting. He has been greatly anticipating the emergence of lightning bugs this spring and was ecstatic to spot the first one. We as a family spend more time outdoors now because of his interests!
