Matilda is an outgoing and friendly 4 year old who loves being outside, discovering new things, making new friends, and exploring nature!
Thank you for generously supporting Matilda in this year’s competition. Your participation helps empower the National Wildlife Federation in their mission to protect wildlife, restore habitats, and inspire the next generation of conservationists.
Matilda loves looking for and collecting treasures such as acorns, pinecones, rocks, bugs, etc. She is curious about nature and wildlife and always asks questions about them. She loves hiking and nature trails. We actually did a 200km hike as a family over 3 weeks and as a 2.5-year-old she walked between 2 to 7 kilometers a day. She loved discovering new things in the natural environment each day. She also loves jumping between rocks, climbing trees, playing in the rain, and planting seeds.
Recently Matilda has been excited about ladybugs and roly-poly bugs and each day tries to find some. She likes ladybugs because of their colour markings and loves how roly-poly bugs can curl up into a little ball. In general, Matilda likes all animals and will stop to ask to pet any dog she passes and will try to find animals in nature and watch them closely, from squirrels to worms.
Matilda loves walking and climbing on rocks and loves to be in forest areas or near water. A favourite day would be walking on and skipping rocks near a stream. She also loves playing under, near, and in trees, often playing imaginative games. Yesterday, she was building a house for a worm out of leaves.
