Liam’s curious mind, wild heart, and deep love for his feathered friends inspire him to learn and protect the natural world around him.
Thank you for generously supporting Liam in this year’s competition. Your participation helps empower the National Wildlife Federation in their mission to protect wildlife, restore habitats, and inspire the next generation of conservationists.
What Liam loves most about nature is sharing it with his family. Whether we’re discovering insects at the playground or following fiddler crabs at the salt marsh, he’s always filled with excitement and curiosity. No matter where we are, if he spots a critter, he can’t wait to come find me or sister so we can experience it together. His greatest joy comes from exploring the world alongside the people he loves.
Liam’s favorite animal is the roly-poly. It was one of the first critters he discovered—at first, it scared him, but it also sparked his curiosity. I encouraged him to be brave and gentle, teaching him to respect even the tiniest creatures. Whenever we spot a roly-poly, his face still lights up with joy, and he giggles as it balls up and rolls away. No matter how many we find, his excitement never fades, reminding me of the simple joy of exploring nature through his eyes.
Liam’s favorite outdoor activity is kayaking through the rivers of the salt marsh. He loves spotting wildlife along the way—watching the “pond scoggins” (as the locals call them), dolphins, ospreys, and fish. His absolute favorite part is plucking periwinkle snails off the marsh grass as we float by, collecting as many as he can before gently putting them back. He also thinks it’s hilarious to occasionally splash me, adding a little mischief to our adventure.
