My Alaskan born & raised boy, Koa, officially became a Jr.Ranger last year on a Prince William Sound cruise that we took w Gma last year!
You decide who will appear in a Ranger Rick magazine and take home $20,000
What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn moreKoa is a self-proclaimed guardian of the forest—from not wanting to step on worms after it rains, to climbing (and talking to) trees in Talkeetna, to hiking intensives across Alaska. He’d live in his treehouse if I let him. Nature helps him focus, feel calm, and fully himself. He notices everything—clouds, bugs, bird calls—and always brings home a giant stick or a pocketful of rocks. If you ask what he wants to be? “A nature guide.” But honestly—he already is.
“I don’t know. Maybe a dragon. Can I say that? Or an eagle that can shoot lightning.” Koa says he mostly likes any animal as long they are powerful and smart—especially big cats, hawks, and anything with superpowers. He’s always drawing up mythical, Pokémon-like creatures that would totally join you in a battle—or an epic forest quest. But only if you spoke their language.
Koa loves anything that gets him moving outside—from playing soccer with friends to climbing trees, building driftwood forts, and carving new paths off the trail. He’s had full-on mud battles in the rain and once found a hiking stick taller than him. His favorite days are spent exploring places like Eklutna Lake, where the trail almost feels too small for his imagination.
