He’s a devoted bug rescuer, always stepping in to save them from danger — like the time he saved one from a lizard at Disney World. Fossils are his next big love. He hunts for them with a keen eye, adding each new find to his self-made “Nature Museum.” From stones and feathers to snake skins and seed pods, every treasure has a story he loves to tell. For him, nature is a world of small wonders and endless adventures.
Kirk is obsessed with beetles especially the Hercules beetle. He’s fascinated by its massive horns and incredible strength. He watches videos, draws pictures, and can recite endless facts about how it lifts objects 100 times its weight. When he finds a beetle outside, he whispers, “Maybe it’s a Hercules!” In his eyes, it’s a tiny superhero, a powerful protector of the bug world. To him, the Hercules beetle isn’t just an insect — it’s the coolest creature in nature.
My 6-year-old’s favorite outdoor adventure is “mining” for fossils, bugs, and stones with the whole family. Every nature walk becomes a classroom as we learn to identify tree types and uncover hidden treasures together. He proudly shares each find, a fossilized leaf, a shiny stone, a beetle on a mission, adding it to his “Nature Museum.” Family time in nature isn’t just fun; it’s a chance to learn, connect, and explore the wonders of the world together.
