Receive Text UpdatesJude had a tough time coming up with the words to describe his love for nature. He loves it all, he says. From what I see as his mother, he really loves to learn by observing and feels pride in knowing and understanding his surroundings. He was born and raised in Alaska and immersed in nature from a young age. He knows our home environment well, and when we travel, the first thing he wants to do is get an understanding of the local flora&fauna. We usually get local field guides help us!
Jude’s favorite animal is a peregrine falcon. At 4 years old he was introduced to birding when a man walked by our property with binoculars. The man explained to him what he was looking for— and he’s been an avid birder ever since! He had a tough time choosing a favorite, but he settled on the peregrine falcon because they dive incredibly fast.
Jude’s favorite activity is simply being at the beach and exploring the tideline. We live in a small coastal community along a beach in the Kenai Fjords National Park. We are at the beach nearly everyday with his two younger sisters. He collects unique shells and bones. He likes to explore tide pools in the dark winter when we walk with headlamps at low tide. He is always watching for birds— especially when migratory species show up like sandhill cranes, great blue herons and arctic terns.
