He cares deeply for all animals, plants, & fungi. He loved completing Jr Ranger books across the USA, learning why each park is unique & interconnections of life. Not only is he a passionate outdoor explorer, he also reads about nature & how to protect the world. Our “nature kid” even carried pine needles in his pockets as a toddler so he could smell trees anytime.
I love all animals, but Snowy Owls are my favorites because they're amazing. They don’t make a single sound until breeding season and that’s really astonishing because they still communicate with their family members without sound. They’re beautiful and their white patterns on their feathers look really cool. The moms are a mix of white and darker spots so they’re camouflaged to protect their babies. They can see up to 300 feet!
I really like to hike slowly & quietly so I can see animals and look at all the insects, lichen, plants, and anything else. Once when we were hiking in Australia, we got to watch an echidna, which is really cool because echidnas are pretty rare! Its quills were so pretty! In Iowa, we saw a beaver swimming and gathering sticks. We watched it quietly for so long! Hiking Coyote Buttes South with my sister & Grandpa Bob, we felt the wind pelting us with sand, eroding incredible rock formations.
