What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn moreJonah has always sought out the less immediately accessible and visible aspects of nature. He loves seeing under water, flipping rocks looking under bark and listening for birds and other hidden gems in wild places. He has a particular affection for herps, especially snakes, and even moreso the ones other people may view as bad, dangerous or scary.
He struggles to narrow down his favorite animal to a specific herp, but at the top of the list are both Inland Taipan and the saltwater crocodile. Both of these animals can be dangerous if interacted with inappropriately, and other people view them as inherently bad. Jonah, however, feels strongly about educating people about how cool they are and protecting these creatures while giving them a place to live peacefully.
Herping is one of his favorite activities and he is up for flipping rocks and hiking trails any day and any time. However, he also has a strong love of seining or seine fishing. Jonah loves the process of being surprised by what nature has to show him. Invariably, the creatures one can find in hidden places are the ones he seeks out. The possibly of investigating both water and land bring him equal amounts of joyful anticipation.
