Jasper spends lots of time outdoors an learning about the environment, and then teaching us all the facts. He also helps injured wildlife.

What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn moreHe really loves animals and the large diversity within the animal kingdom. He is intrigued by how different everything is, and how it relates to the ecosystem they thrive in. Last year, we visited both Saguero National Park in Arizona, and Banff National Park in Canada, and he is always interested what animals live where, and how they are adapted to survive the heat of the desert or the cold of the glaciers. He also thinks that spending time in nature is very peaceful and calming.
His favorite animal often changes, but right now it is the platypus. He has taught us all about them; how they have webbed feet like an otter, the tail of a beaver, and the bill of a duck (which helps them see underwater!?!). Jasper has been begging to go visit Australia and Tasmania just to see them and where there small freshwater stream-habitats there. I also just learned (from him) that they have poisonous spurs on their feet, so I'm going to have to convince him that they are not pattable.
He really enjoys climbing, whether its a rock formation or trees. He likes the puzzle of figuring out how to get up there, the feeling of accomplishment when he gets up there, the thrill of being up high, and the view it provides of the surrounding landscape. Coming down is sometimes scary though, as the puzzle is much more difficult from the top. Sometimes we go geocaching, which is just another puzzle in nature. At home, he plays a lot of sports; his favorite are baseball and soccer.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Jr. Ranger, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
