Jacob is a park ranger’s son so has always lived in national parks or towns nearby. He’s an adventurer who cares for & finds joy in nature.
Thank you for generously supporting Jacob in this year’s competition. Your participation helps empower the National Wildlife Federation in their mission to protect wildlife, restore habitats, and inspire the next generation of conservationists.
Jacob loves exploring the great outdoors and has hiked more miles than most adults. He backcountry camps every year with his father, always bringing a smile to faces of those he passes on the trails. This summer he will summit Mount Ida and make the initial ascent of Longs Peak. Jacob loves to learn about not only local flora and fauna, but also those of other states and countries around the world. He aspires to travel abroad (cat island in Japan!) and continue his outdoor education.
Jacob loves any wild cat and finds them fascinating. Lions with their golden manes and family dynamics; tigers with their silent hunting and striped hides; bobcats with their ear tufts, bobbed tails, and the way they sun themselves in our yard; and even the domestic house cat for their loyalty, intellect, and general adorableness.
His favorite outdoor activity is hiking in the wilderness. He enjoys the sights, sounds, and smells of nature. He likes to look for interesting wildlife along the way, often spotting marmots, pika, elk, and birds. Jacob hikes all year round and just enjoyed a seven mile hike up to The Loch in Rocky Mountain National Park. He used microspikes/poles because of the snowpack, and was snowed on along the way. He also really enjoys skiing and camping.
