What does Isabella love most about nature?

Izzy loves creatures! She loves the different animals, but also loves the different insects. We learn about each creature and how it plays an important role in nature when we are out exploring. She recently learned about the Killdeer bird since we had some nest in our side yard. She recently got to see a Cooper’s Hawk up close when we unfortunately found it on our property, newly diseased. A local wildlife agent told us how the hawk is a protected raptor in our state.

What is Isabella's favorite animal—and why?

Izzy’s favorite animal, at the moment, is the Cooper’s Hawk. Its long talons were fascinating and she LOVED the color of its eyes. We got to learn about its intricate feathers. She can’t believe their tiny eyes can see small prey from so high up in the sky. She also has a favorite insect! The banana spider. We recently named one Ed. She thinks it’s pretty and likes that it’s bright yellow. She also thinks its web is cool. Mostly, she likes that it eats bugs she doesn’t like, like mosquito’s. 🤣

What is Isabella's favorite outdoor activity?

Izzy loves kayaking with her mom and walking the shoreline at the lake. When the water is low, we go hunting for the large freshwater clam shells. She loves getting to see new creatures in their natural habitat while fishing. We recently learned that AL Power is currently working to preserve the Flattened Musk Turtles’ habitat and that it’s currently federally threatened. When we walk the shoreline, we carry trash bags with us to collect litter in order to keep the animals habitats clean.
