When Gerard(10) heard the meaning of the idiom “not out of the woods yet,” he countered, “in my opinion, the woods is the best place to be!”

What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn moreGerard loves how peaceful nature is. Learning from nature, being in nature… he “loves basically everything about it.” He says camping and fishing and hiking are his favorite things to do in nature. But you may also find him trail riding, kayaking, sledding, learning/using survival skills, and snowshoeing. Gerard loves to go out into nature solo sometimes. He finds it soothing, grounding and worthwhile. Gerard has dyslexia, but it doesn’t stop him from learning and reading about nature.
Wolves (and dogs) are Gerard’s favorite animals. They live in a pack, hunt in a pack, and do everything together. They use teamwork to get their prey. They can run far and long without stopping. Wolves have a majestic and strong quality that Gerard is drawn to.
Gerard’s favorite outdoor activity is fishing. Just last week Gerard caught a 17-inch rainbow trout from the Niagara River. He breathes and lives fishing. In the summer, he makes his parents tote his fishing pole and tackle box around in their van, in case, in happenstance, there is an opportunity to fish somewhere.
