What is Jr. Ranger?
Learn moreCharlie loves all things nature, including plants and trees that bloom flowers he can pick for his Mom. He also loves the bison, elk, and 14 wild pigs we recently saw while camping at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in Kentucky and Tennessee. Speaking of animals, Charlie acts a bit like a bear around water, fishing, floating, splashing, and swimming about. His love for nature—and his commitment to recycling—are what contributed to his 2025 Pre-K “Caring Conservationist” award.
Charlie’s favorite animal—at least today—is a “cute baby deer” because “they’re so cute," have button noses, and have very good eyes to see in the dark. Other things that he loves about deer are how fast they run, how high they jump, and how they use their white tails to warn deer friends of nearby danger.
Charlie’s favorite outdoor adventure is camping, where he can immerse himself in nature doing family activities like building and burning campfires, cooking s’mores over the fire, relaxing in his hammock camping chair, and riding his bike around the campground. Charlie has been an avid camper since age one, and hopes to get at least five stamps on his National Parks Passport this summer: Badlands, Mammoth Cave, Mount Rushmore, Smoky Mountain, and Yellowstone National Parks.
