Animals are Caleighna's favorite part of nature. From rollie-pollies to pink porpoise, Caleighna wants to learn more. Recently Caleighna had been asking questions about the native OK cotton tail bunnies. She was asking why they hide in the shadows and why they are camouflaged. She learned that they are hiding from birds of prey like red tail hawks, and other predators. Each encounter with a new animal creates a plethora of questions and a journey in learning for Caleighna.
Caleighna's favorite animal is a pink porpoise called the Amazon river dolphin, also known as the boto or pink river dolphin. It is a unique toothed whale found in the Amazon and Orinoco river basins of South America. Caleighna loves this animal because it is pink and a dolphin, two of her favorite things.
Caleighna's favorite outdoor activity is to go to the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Preserve and look for buffalo, prairie dogs and cattle. The preserve is located in southwestern Oklahoma in Wichita Mountains about thirty minutes from her house. The refuge is full of wildlife but best known for its roaming herds of bison, longhorn, and Rocky Mountain elk.
