Barron’s favorite animal is the Eastern Ratsnake. He found and, with assistance from his parents, successfully and safely captured two snakes. His interest in ratsnakes grew as he contributed to constructing a realistic terrarium, provided appropriate food, and ensured all their needs were met. Barron checked the snakes several times a day and learned the proper techniques for handling them. This experience gave him a sense of responsibility and pride as he took charge of their wellbeing.
Barron’s favorite activity is looking for insects, snakes, lizards, and frogs. The backyard backs up to a bay creating a haven for local wildlife. Green anoles are always a prized find. Due to their prevalence compared to ratsnakes, Barron can capture and release several anoles over the course of an afternoon. Each find is meticulously examined, appreciated, then released. The process resumes once again in his continuing search for more specimens. Finding new creatures makes Barron truly happy.
