Aven is an amateur naturalist who asks really good questions. Both of his parents are botanists who taught him about plants and fungi in the wild. He is especially interested in pollinators, turtles, birds, animals, and during our trips in the wilderness and on our Weaver Basin trail system, which spans 50 miles. He often comes home and draws them in his nature sketchbook. He loves reading Ranger Rick and other books about animals that he has earned through awards at the Trinity Fair.
Aven’s current favorite animal is the walrus. Although he hasn’t seen one in the wild, he has read extensively about them and created some amazing artworks. he likes their blubber enlarged teeth, acting out their movements on land. he is deeply concerned about theihaven conservation in the north pole as icebergs melt. He really enjoyed seeing the elephant seals at Point Reyes National Seashore last month. Last weekend, he attended the turtle exhibit at Turtle Bay in Redding and loved it.
Aven’s preferred outdoor pursuits are mountain biking and scaling trees of all sizes, envisioning himself on adventures discovering wildlife in their natural habitats. He possesses a remarkable neurodiverse imagination and holds a deep passion for observing the natural world, no matter the environment he finds himself in.
